Micro-Symphony Dictated by Robin Goodfellow (for piano four hands)

In March 2025 I saw an incredible piano duo perform at a tiny concert in Penicuik, near Edinburgh. I was blown away by the quality of the two pianists, Anna Szałucka and Monika Lozinskienė, and their deep symbiosis when performing together. I had it in my mind to write a duet for them at some point.

Almost a year later, I finally sat down to write a serious concert work for them … but no sooner had I started testing out ideas at the piano when a spirit of impishness came over me, as if Puck (or to call him by another name, Robin Goodfellow) was quite literally whispering musical ideas into my ear. The resulting work, Micro-Symphony Dictated by Robin Goodfellow, crams five diverse movements into under four minutes and is as irreverent a work as any I can remember writing. It is full of musical jokes of all kinds (plus a few darker moments; Puck has a temper, on occasion).I hope it is a playful and joyous addition to the repertoire for piano four hands. We all need a bit of levity in our lives sometimes.
